The Smart Healthcare Engineering project wants to be a significant step forward in addressing the issues that were and also have arisen in healthcare institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Smart Healthcare Engineering aims to create synergies between engineering, healthcare institutions, training institutions and HEIs. The proposed new learning/training approaches (problem based learning, team-based learning, hands-on sessions, blended learning for theoretical study, on the spot guidelines, personalised options and management, case presentations, all developed in an working environment, in this case a hospital) supplemented by the virtual learning platform creates an innovative pedagogical technique which can link various fields of educations.

From   the   beginning

The Smart Healthcare Engineering project, led by a consortium of five institutions from Romania, Spain, and Türkiye, focuses on training engineers to manage daily hospital operations, maintenance, and facility modernization effectively. The SHEng project has the potential to make a substantial impact on the healthcare engineering by:
  1. Utilizing training aids to equip students with essential knowledge and practical skills for their future careers.
  2. Implementing new technologies to enhance hospital operations, maintenance, and safety, fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals.
  3. Offering a 12-day hospital "traineeship" for students from Romania, Spain, and Türkiye to gain real-world experience and improve their employability.
  4. Providing healthcare engineering education to bachelor students, enhancing the quality of their education.
  5. Creating an accessible online platform for free access to high-quality healthcare technology information, promoting equitable education.
  6. Facilitating transnational collaboration with international organizations to leverage specialized expertise and knowledge.

Where   we   are   now

The project, started in late 2023, is currently preparing the second Intensive Training Mobility in Romania, specifically in Brasov. This transnational mobility involves the support of Transilvania University of Brasov and Country Hospital of Săcele.
